RSS & Your Blog - How to Get More Subscribers

You have heard of RSS, but do you know what it really means? There is no need to be embarrassed, if you aren't sure. A surprising number of people are still not aware on what an amazing tool RSS feeds can be, and many have no clue what a subscription is or why they would want one.

RSS stands for "really simple syndication." When you set up RSS for your website or blog, you enable your content to be broadcast across the Internet whenever you put up something new. Visitors to your site subscribe to your RSS feeds for the express purpose of receiving instant notification whenever you put up something new.

So, why would visitors to your website want a subscription to your content? This is the question you ultimately have to answer if you want to get other people to signup for your feeds.

Getting visitors to want to subscribe to your feeds is the same as getting them to want to visit your site in the first place. You have to deliver timely, accurate, informative, and entertaining content that is valuable to them. If you are providing that on a routine basis, you will get subscribers who want to follow your website or blog without actually coming back to your actual webpage to read it.

The Feed Reader (or Aggregator)

An online aggregator is a website which collects headlines that are appearing around the web. These sites are often put together manually by an aggressive site owner who wants to be the leading directory of what is happening online.

A feed aggregator or reader is similar, but it is a web program rather than manually operated. It collects headlines and other information appearing around the web and keeps record of it. This program, later also delivers this information to others who have expressed  an interested in it. So, there is a connection between your content and your interested subscribers.

There are two advantages to using RSS feed on your website:

1. RSS feeds keep you in constant contact with visitors who have enjoyed your content. You are able to present yourself as an expert in your field, and they will come to rely upon you for information.

2. You can also use RSS feeds to enhance your SEO (search engine optimization) efforts. You do this by getting your feeds incorporated into search engine results feeds for the top search engines, such as Google and Yahoo. This can even be done for your blog using blog search engines available nowadays.

So, having discussed the above, are you interested in incorporating RSS into your online marketing strategy? These tips should help you get started:

* Place an icon for RSS subscriptions on your website, and it should be one which is as big as you can possible find. Bear in mind, you want to be easily visible.

* There should be more than one opportunity for visitors to subscribe to your RSS feeds.

* Incorporate WP Greetbox WordPress Plugin on your website. This application pops up every time someone logs onto your blog. They can always close out the pop-up if they don't want to subscribe or have already done so.

* Incorporate in your website of blog an opportunity to subscribe at the end of every blog post. This allows readers who enjoyed the post to subscribe for more.

Last but not least, you can get your own RSS feed by signing up for a Google account, and thereafter use Google Feedburner. They even provide detailed instructions on how to set it up for your site.

That should be all you need to get started with RSS feeds today!
